Value of Study

Most people start their working life with a preconception of where they want to work.

For some, they aim to own and run their own business
For others, they plan to enter a career path they have identified, and advance along that path to achieve an end goal that they have also identified.
In today's world, there is a big problem with both of these ideas.

That problem is simply that the world is changing so fast, that no one can predict what changes are going to happen to business opportunities and career pathways. In fact; if you start a three year course, aiming to get a job that you see is currently available; there is a good change that job might not exist; or might be very different by the time you complete your course.

Why Study anything then?

There are some things that will increase your chance of career success, no matter how much the world changes; and it is those things that you should aim to develop, if you are to create a successful and rewarding career path for your entire working life.

  • Attitude -You need to always be prepared for things to change. You need to be prepared to take up new opportunities when they present; and be sensitive to trends, and don't stay too long with an enterprise that is in decline.

  • Communication Skill -The ability to communicate within your industry is critical in any industry. Hear and understand, speak and be understood. Good education and experience builds these skills; but a proper attitude is also important for your communication skills to be of any benefit.

  • Problem Solving -Problems keep arising in any job. The people who successfully solve problems, are the4 ones who advance in their careers. Good education and experience will teach you lots of effective ways to confront, analyze and solve problems.

  • Networking -People who are connected with colleagues will know what is changing before those who are not. They will see opportunities, Success is sometimes affected as much by who you know, as it is by what you know.

  • Foundation Knowledge -Good education or on the job training provides foundation knowledge that underpins a career. Foundation knowledge cannot be attained through a "fast tracked" education. This is all about embedding things into your head -making concepts and information stick and stay with you for life; so that it can be retrieved and used in a flash, whenever needed.       eg. Someone who has foundation knowledge in identifying plants and animals; will remember new species when they encounter them. Someone who has foundation knowledge in psychology, will understand new people when they meet  them.
